I'm New

Welcome to First United Methodist Church in Anderson.

We are so glad that you have made your way here.

And the first thing we want you to know is this – no matter who you are, you are welcome here!

First United Methodist is a supportive faith community where everyone is welcome to learn, grow and serve together.  We care deeply about encouraging one another, supporting our children and families, and building up the Anderson Community.

If you are curious about our worship our primary service is at 10:00 on Sunday morning. The service might best be described as a blend of the old and new, structured but relaxed, with quite a variety of expression. Through scripture, prayer, song and sermon, we are always seeking to get connected – to God and to one another.

You can wear about anything and there will be plenty of people at worship dressed like you. Some people will have on a tie and jacket, but many will be dressed more casually, with no shortage of jeans.

In summer, our largest service is an outdoor worship experience at our second campus, Davis Park. It is at 9:00 and you can just bring a lawn chair and plop it down. The summer fare is especially geared toward making sense of our faith in relationship to current culture. We also offer an indoor worship service at 10:45 at our downtown location in the North/South Parlor.

We have found that many people are looking for a place to serve. Our congregation reaches out in a lot of ways and we can get you plugged in. You might cook or serve or bag groceries at Community café; you might become a classroom helper at Anderson Elementary School, or pack Buddy Bags for the kids to take home over the weekend; or, you might want to go on a mission trip with our youth and help build equipment to purify water for communities with such need. You can find a place.

Maybe you are most interested in finding a place to belong, a place to forge new friendships. There are a multitude of small groups ranging from Bible Studies to Choirs to Grief Support to Addiction Recovery. We have new small groups beginning regularly so you can start together with a new bunch of people.

Maybe what you are hoping for is a place where your children and teenagers can thrive. Visit that part of our web site for particulars but know this: our congregation has set three priorities for the coming two years and one is to strengthen the programming we offer to children and youth. We regard them as fully part of the congregation and are making our kids a priority. We would love to have them here.
